Remodeling Continues!

Grand (re-) Opening Coming Soon!

In June we continue the renovation we started last month. The renovations include new bathrooms, a lounge, a handicap access ramp, and a Full Bar!

Bare with us while we try to minimize the impact to production shows during the construction.

Below are some highlights of the work in June; click here to read what happened in May.

Week 5

On June 1st new framing began in the ballroom with the addition of the new backstage handicap access ramp and stairs. This is where the old ‘baptuzzi’ used to be, which we never used. By end of June 3rd walls are framed for both of the restrooms off the ballroom lobby, which also extends the balcony by some 200 sq ft. Walls also went up in the ballroom which will enclose a 2-hour fire-rated set of stairs from the cabaret.

Downstairs, framing also got started in the cabaret restroom and footings were poured for the new staircase and for some I-beam supports that will open up the bar area.

Outside, brickwork began on the old ballroom windows which we are bricking up for sound control and better climate control. All the east-side windows are done. The concrete retaining walls for the handicap access ramp we poured. The old caberet exits were blocked and bricked up and a new doorway cut into the wall. Now the lower-half of the handicap ramp can be built along that wall. Check out the slideshow below:

Week 6

Electricians started work moving breaker panels and re-wiring outlets to accommodate the new walls in the ballroom and installing new fire alarm switches at all the doors. A wood deck went on the ADA ramp which is now complete except for railings (it got it’s inaugural wheelchair action on Friday!). Plumbers began work on the restrooms off the ballroom lobby. Framers got started on a more robust railing in the lobby and they create walls so we can the in the balcony. The new doorway will permit a landing at the top of the stairs. Downstairs some plumbing went in for the drains in the bar, a new smooth level floor was floated in the cabaret restrooms, and the old duct work was pull down. New duct work will be installed that provides better sound isolation between the cabaret and ballroom.

Week 7

As of June 16th, four doorways off the ballroom lobby were cut into the wall and framed in (two go into new restrooms). Big structural I-beams went in above the bar — one to replace a structural wall we tore out to open up the space, and another to support the girders we cut through to make room for a new staircase. Downstairs, walls went up for the cabaret restrooms, the green room, and the small restroom inside the greenroom. Wiring for fire alarms was run through out.

Week 8

The new staircase was framed out on Monday with huge 22-foot long 2×12 stringers — no longer is there a hole with a 11-foot drop to the basement! During the week all the framing for fhe restrooms and doorways was completed, as well as the plumbing, HVAC, and electrical rough-ins. On Friday, June 24th, the AC units were hosted onto their new steel perch above the back door. On Friday we had the great news: all the HVAC, plumbing, and electricals PASSED inspections. Next week: framing inspections and then, hopefully, drywall goes up.
